Off Season is an artistartist residencyresidency programmeprogramme that invites contemporarycontemporary artistsartists to live and work at the seaside, in areas usually thought of as one-dimensional tourist hotspots.

The first edition of Off Season took place in October 2020, a year that was particularly challenging for the tourism industry and hosted five international artists working in a range of mediums, from visual arts to film, video, writing, and sound. During the three-week residency, the artists engaged in research on the relationship between the historical context of the Albanian seaside, and the landscape that both shapes and is shaped by tourism. Off Season organized exhibitions of the residents’ research and works in Tirana, Albania, Bucharest and Cluj, Romania, and was part of Manifesta 14 in Prishtina, Kosovo.

Located in Radhima, a small resort village, Off Season aims to bring new artistic perspectives to the Albanian seaside by facilitating artists’ research and dialogue with the current and historical context of the resort. The residency uses the metaphor of an imagined travel company to critically engage with the language and structures of tourism, and presents the research process and outcomes in “exhibitions as Tourist Agencies”.
